COMMON U.S. MATTRESS SIZES - (AND SOME ODD ONES) MATTRESS SIZE CHART

     What size mattress do you have?  Well, here is the low down on mattress measurements and common sizes.  Also, I'll explain why you sometimes see differing measurements on mattress sizes depending on where you look.  So here we go.

     There are 4 common mattress sizes used in the U.S. today.  They are:
  1. Twin Size - 39" x 75"
  2. Full Size - 54" x 75"
  3. Queen Size - 60" x 80"
  4. King size - 78" x 80"
     There are a few common "odd" sized mattresses too.  They are:
  1. Twin XL - 39" x 80"
  2. Full XL - 54" x 80"
  3. California King - 74" x 84"
I say "common odd sizes" because they are not typically stocked by mattress stores(at least on the east coast) but are readily available by most manufacturers without a problem.  

     Now, when you measure your own mattress to check, you may notice that the mattress is an inch or two less than the factory measurements.  This is very common and is to be expected.  Remember, mattresses are a textile product that are sewn together and trimmed too.  This brings the overall measurements in a bit.

    I recently had to measure my mattress to ensure it fits the bed frame, and I found this article helpful! It explained the standard mattress sizes so clearly. I’m also considering getting a folding mattress for extra guest space, and I’m glad there are many sizes to choose from. A folding mattress would be an excellent option for a small room or travel. I might even go with a full-size folding mattress to ensure it’s big enough for my guests.
